A Dunkin' Donuts is coming to Princess Anne near Route 13, a town official confirmed.
The coffee and baked goods shop is being built at the shopping center on the corner of University of Maryland Eastern Shore Boulevard and Route 13, according to Garland Hayward, president of the Princess Anne town commission.
Hayward said it's not clear when the structure will be completed, but the foundation is being laid.
The town has been hoping to attract a chain store like Dunkin' Donuts to Princess Anne in order to draw in traffic off Route 13, according to Hayward.
"Some of your major chains will do that," Hayward said.
Additionally, plans are in place for a mixed-use development at Route 13 opposite UMES Boulevard and north of the Food Lion shopping center at 12158 Brittingham Lane.
The land has sat dormant for years, but Hayward said discussions are in place to bring a hotel and retail there, as well as residential properties nearby. There is currently no confirmed tenant.
"It's a piece of property that could be very advantageous to the town of Princess Anne once developed," Hayward said. "I could see in the future that could be a booming spot.”
Before construction can start, the town needs to find a tenant and finalize plans for a historic house located on the property.
